Limelight 2014

Attended SAJC Concert Band's annual Limelight concert 2014 yesterday evening, with Yuhui and Kelila! It truly felt great to be back at the Esplanade Concert Hall after so long, to catch a good concert, furthermore one by the band I was once in. :) It made me realise how much I really enjoyed making music in the band, and learning new things about the clarinet everyday as I slogged to improve. Forgot how beautiful and moving music can be, too. God, your creations are truly majestic!

While listening to their repertoire and watching the current juniors play, I was brought to the realisation of the parallel between the band and the body of Christ: just like a band, the body of Christ is many parts, one body. Different instruments played by people of different personalities come together to create one resounding melody in unity. Just as how different people of different skills, talents and walks of life come together with the same intention: to serve the same great God who first loved them.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

- 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

It would be truly awesome if the church would have a band ministry! I would gladly offer my time to serve in it! Would be so much more willing to play in a band if there are less politics going around.. not enough love going around to overcome everyone's differences..
